In 2012-2013 Virginia Commonwealth University sponsors a Year of Freedom: Confronting Our Past, Facing Our Future as the university's commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War and Emancipation. Dr. Masur, a cultural historian, will base his lecture on his new book "Lincoln's Hundred Days: The Emancipation Proclamation and the War for the Union (Harvard Press, 2012). A reception and book signing will follow in Commonwealth Ballroom A on the second floor of the Commons. Free and open to the public.
