DescriptionEvonik Technologies scientists and engineers will display the exploratory car "Wind Explorer" and answer your questions on how it crossed Australia in under $15 of energy costs. The Wind Explorer is an electric, wind, solar vehicle with its own power supply. The experimental car weighs less than 440 pounds and reaches speeds of 40 miles per hour. Kites can drive this lightweight solar/electric/wind vehicle and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows the car to travel up to 225 miles per day. Is this new lightweight construction and lithium-ion technology a response to the problem of global warming? The car will be on display for all VCU students, faculty and staff. Learn how this dynamic vehicle was constructed and how it traveled 3,000 miles across the continent in 18 days.
