The 2013 Symposium, Comparative Emancipation in the Atlantic World, features Dr. Thavolia Glymph, Duke University, presenting "Emancipation and the Problem of Black Refugees and Refugee Camps in the Civil War; Dr. Dale Graden, University of Idaho, presenting "And the Drums Beat Loudly in 1888: Brazil's Final Abolition in the Americas"; and Dr. Antonio Espinoza, VCU, presenting "Emancipation in Peru".
