|Description||Enslaved in Richmond, Henry "Box" Brown escaped to freedom in 1849 by having himself mailed to Philadelphia in a wooden crate. He later moved to England to perform his ambitious moving panorama, Henry Box Brown's Mirror of Slavery, explored here through song and an illustrated talk by author Jeffrey Ruggles and an accompanying vocalist.
