Brian Ulrich: Copia- Retail, Thrift and Dark Stores, 2001-2011 & Close Out: Retail Relics and Ephemera will open with a free, public reception on January 18. Both exhibitions remain on view at the Anderson Gallery until March 10. Copia, the first major museum exhibition of Brian Ulrich's work surveys his decade-long examination of the American consumer psyche. From the Latin word for "plenty," the artist's Copia series includes nearly 60 photographs that explore the economic, cultural, and political implications of commercialism and American consumer culture. Close Out is an exhibition of objects and images from Brian Ulrich's vast personal archive offers the first in-depth look at his collecting activities relative to his overall artistic practice. It also extends the narrative arc of his Copia project, providing a wider historical context. A limited-edition artist book accompanies the exhibition.
