Optimal control can be a helpful tool in the analysis of dynamical systems for which there is an interest to affect the system's natural dynamics in a "most" effective way. In this talk she will review the basic problem statement in optimal control and how it can be used to analyze some biomedical models. A few examples will be reviewed but special focus will be given to results the analysis of a best treatment schedule for tumor reduction by antiangiogenic therapy. Norma Ortiz?Robinson is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. Her research interests include optimal control and differential inclusions with time delay. 2013 Alexander Mallory Clarke Award for Academic Excellence in the VCU Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program will be announced following seminar.
