Victor Chen, Assistant Professor of Sociology at VCU, will be talking about his new book, "Cut Loose: Jobless and Hopeless in an Unfair Economy" (University of California Press, 2015), for the final "Meet VCU's Authors" series event, which is co-sponsored by the Humanities Research Center and VCU Libraries. All are welcome to this free and public event! Thursday, MARCH 24 | 7PM | VCU James Branch Cabell Library (901 Park Ave.) Lecture Hall (RM 303). "Cut Loose" offers a poignant look at how the long-term unemployed struggle in today?s unfair economy to support their families, rebuild their lives, and overcome the shame and self-blame that they deal with on a daily basis. It is also a call to action-a blueprint for a new kind of politics, one that offers a measure of grace in a society of ruthless advancement.
