VCU and Virginia Tech have officially launched the Commonwealth’s only university-based Illumina NovaSeq X Plus, marking a historic milestone in Virginia’s scientific landscape. This collaboration represents the first time two Virginia institutions have jointly operated SCHEV-funded instrumentation, a partnership made possible by the vital support of the State.

Located on-site at the VCU Genomics Core, this state-of-the-art instrument offers Illumina’s most advanced and powerful sequencing to date, providing unprecedented performance for applications such as whole-genome, metagenomic, transcriptome and population-scale sequencing. By bridging our resources and expertise, we are ensuring our faculty remain at the forefront of genomic discovery while setting a new standard for statewide innovation and collaborative science.

Join P. Srirama Rao, Ph.D., VCU's vice president for research and innovation, and Dan Sui, Ph.D., Virginia Tech's senior vice president and chief research and innovation officer, as they open the event with joint remarks along with members of the Virginia House of Delegates and SCHEV to discuss the future of collaborative research in high end genomics.
