Patients search online for health information but may not have the skills to evaluate the information they find. Directing patients to reliable sources of information is important so that patients make health decisions based on accurate and reliable information. This workshop will teach students basic website evaluation skills. Participants will learn how to find reliable health information written in language patients can understand. An emphasis will be on using MedlinePlus for finding health information. Participants will also learn to use SeniorNavigator, a local health resource. During the workshop, the instructor will demonstrate health resources available on the Community Health Education Center’s (CHEC) website and ensure participants are familiar with CHEC as a source they can turn for assistance in finding health information and as a place to refer patients.
